The seventeen members of the network met in Kathmandu for three days.
All the members were together for three days. We were inspired by a number of presentations by inspirational speakers. We were introduced to basic knowledge regarding climate in general but specifically to the changes we are seeing here in Nepal by Dr. Deepak Rijal. (please see under resources for his presentation)
We were also introduced to local planning methods such as LAPA and we shared how climate change is affecting our and our communities daily lives. Although we are a very diverse group working in many different subject areas, from child protection, education to cultural heritage preservation, it was quite amazing how we contribute and learn from each other.
As we are a relevant new network we spent time talking about our collective vision and goals for the next three years. All the organizations have focus on the most vulnerable groups in Nepal. Inclusion is an issue that always needs to be addressed. We had an inspirational talk from Mr. Bimal Phuyal, who has been working with this issue and organizational set up for 30 years. We talked about how the network can by example abide by inclusive norms.
Our slogan - where we want to be in three years:
We are a strong resourceful and visible network in three years’ time.
We discussed the steps to take to get to this stage and agreed to work to create a network culture of Not I but a We sprit!
We will try to be inclusive, open, transparent, responsible to each other, have solidarity, empathy and promote true dialogue…………
We will seek to capacity strengthen ourselves, to upgrade our knowledge in all aspects of climate change so we can better operate, take wise choices together with our communities.
